Annoyed customer #626 - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My house is liveable again
"Apparently Washington doesn't believe in ac being a standard when they build houses which was a shock when I moved here. Last summer was miserable and the inside temp of the house regularly went 3-5° above the outside temperature. And with no breeze opening the windows did nothing. This year I learned my lesson and got one of these.
I'll be real, it works but it has some flaws/ my expectations might very been too high. While it does cool the area you put it in the 14k btu reading can't be compared to a regular ac with the same btus. Measuring my upstairs sqft 14k would've been enough to cool my entire upper floor and then some; however due to the fact it can only pump air into 1 area it really can only cool part of the 1 room it's in. The direction you can point the vents is only either straight up or at a 45° angle forward. You can't point it flat in any direction. Because of this I had to actually but a standing fan to put about 10ft in front of it to push the air from my kitchen (only available window) into the living room its already pointed at.
The area of the kitchen does genuinely get cooler; however past that the cooling effect became far less noticeable (approx 10ish ft) since my house thermostat took the whole houses temp i was unsure how much this was actually cooling the house but the new standing fan I have has its own thermostat built in which made things easier. As a general rule it will keep the house temp 2° cooler than outside. Which 88 to 86 isn't much BUT the standing fan saying it's actually around 82 and having all the constant air flow makes it definitely feel cooler.
I also have this thing basically running 24/7. It's set to 72 and only ever rarely turns off at night. The other night it turned off (so it read the temp as 72) the standing fan said 74 and the house said 75. So there's a slight margin of error between the 3. My point here is that even with it running nearly 24/7 my electric bill only went up by like 10-15$. Which honestly isn't terrible. Overall I'm definitely satisfied and would highly recommend.
Oh yea, it's not terribly loud either. Like I notice it buy its easy to tune out."
Chrismacx2 - ⭐ Does not cool well
"This did not cool off my small 45 sq ft van, let alone a 150 sq ft room as advertised. Extremely disappointed. I would not recommend."

Paul D. Rockwood - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product from a reliable brand
"I have been using the Frigidaire FFRA051WAE air conditioner for a few weeks now. So far I would say it is a good air conditioner at a great price. It is much smaller and lighter than my previous air conditioner but still very powerful. This specific model weighs 40lbs.
I use this AC unit to cool a small bedroom and the 5000 BTUs is plenty. My room gets extremely cold in an hour running on the High Cool 7 setting.
Helpful tip - if you want your room to stay cold at night and the overnight temperature is going to dip into the 50s, run the AC for 1-2 hours on the High Cool setting before the temperature drops below 60 degrees, then shut it off for the night. If you install some cheap insulation foam on your windows and doors your room will stay cool much longer.
Never run a window AC when the temperature outside is below 60 degrees because it can freeze up the unit. I ran my previous air conditioner everyday in the summer and never knew why it kept shutting off on its own on cold nights. I thought there was a short in it. There must have been an internal chip failsafe that kept my old air conditioner from destroying itself... this is why it still works to this day.
This Frigidaire air conditioner was relatively easy to install right out of the box and fit securely in my window. The only tool I needed was a philips screwdriver. A handy person could probably install this AC unit by themself in about 10 minutes.
Two notable mentions from the installation manual... the 5/16" pitch is built in to the design of the AC unit so no need to worry about doing it yourself. Pitch is the backward tilt which causes water to exit the back of the machine and drain to the outside. In step 1 on page 2 they mention placing the unit on the floor to install the side panels but what they don't specify is that you must place the unit on its back to do so. To get the accordion panels in place lay the air conditioner on its back with buttons face up and slide each panel through the 4 holes on each side. You'll know when you've done it correctly.
I almost didn't buy this air conditioner due to the negative reviews about it not cooling and/or breaking right away. Am starting to think that people give too much weight to negative product reviews these days. Electronics are generally tested before sale and rarely fail right out of the box. Paying extra on an extended warranty is betting on your electronic to fail which is almost always a losing venture.
It's also worth noting that most people never leave positive reviews on any items they buy, they only leave a review if something is wrong with it. This behavior highly skews product reviews in a negative way.
My main complaint regarding this Frigidaire air conditioner is that there is no built in timer. But that would likely have raised the price closer to $300. My old air conditioner had a timer but was very heavy and much harder to install. There are timers online you can buy that should work with air conditioners. But as mentioned previously if you insulate your room properly you can probably get by running this AC unit for just an hour or two most nights.
My only other complaint is a minor one. I leave my air conditioner plugged in and turn the unit on and off on a daily basis. I would much rather have push buttons on an air conditioner than a knob that you turn that could eventually break off.
Final note: When I first got this Frigidaire air conditioner it did not produce super cold air immediately right out of the box. I believe it took a few hours. This is something to keep in mind. Just because an air conditioner doesn't get super cold instantly doesn't mean it's broken."
Amazon Customer - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Little Workhorses
"I recently ordered two of these small window units (and installed one myself at age almost-80). I've had this same little Frigidaire unit running in my upstairs bedroom over the summer months for ten years. That one, about four years ago, I failed to hold on to it tightly as I raised the window to remove it for fall storage. Well, it fell to the grass below. I took it to a repair shop and for $40, they fixed it just fine. Been running great since! My daughter now helps me set in/remove the upstairs one, but I figured I could do this new one myself since the downstairs windows are larger, and it slipped right in easily. But I think I'll wait for my daughter's next visit to her ol' mom to put the one in the kitchen! The instructions advise two people and that might be wiser, but at least now I'm cool!"

What People Are Saying:
Cassandra - ⭐⭐ Weird noises
"Makes weird noises like high pitch dog whistle when the compressor kicks on"
Patricia - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Midea U-Shaped window AC
"I've had this same AC in my bedroom for 3 years. It does an excellent job of cooling my upstairs room and keeps out noise due to unique design. I bought this unit for my son's Chicago apartment but had to return - an outside stone ledge kept it from fitting. We returned this and replaced with the Midea portable AC unit - my son has been very happy with it (did get a more powerful & more expensive portable unit)."
4. GE Window Air Conditioner 5000 BTU
This GE window air conditioner offers 5000 BTU of cooling capacity, making it suitable for smaller rooms up to 150 square feet. It is designed for efficient performance in areas like bedrooms, home offices, and studio apartments.

The 5100 BTU cooling power provides Maximum Comfort through efficient dehumidification and air circulation. Customers praise the ability to quickly cool down small rooms.
The slide-out filter makes for Easy Installation and Cleaning. Removable and washable filters help keep the unit running efficiently by trapping dust and debris. Filters should be cleaned every 30 days for best performance.
While overall the unit fulfills its purpose as a basic and affordable window air conditioner for small spaces, some customers note issues with noise. Some mention a rattling or "boom" sound, though it is unclear if this is due to installation or a defect in the AC itself.
In conclusion, the GE window AC provides good value for smaller cooling needs. However, potential noise issues indicate that customer service and product quality could be improved. Spending a bit more for a higher-end brand may provide a more reliable and quiet experience.

Johanna P. - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works Well But Very Noisy
"I was very excited to get this, as my bedroom was beginning to feel like an oven. I bought it on a Friday morning and it came to me by Sunday evening. It was very easy to install. It cooled down my room very quickly. In fact I leave it on low because my room got so cold. The only complain I have is that it is quite noisy. Sometimes it sounds like there is something stuck inside of it rattling against the fan. Sometimes it makes this noise almost like a “boom” and it scared and wakes me from my sleep. I don’t know if maybe I have slightly defective one or if they are all like this."
Chris Gonzalez - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works
"This AC unit works find for a small room. Its 107° hot outside and I place this AC in my living room. The speed is on high cool. But feels more like middle speed. My home has 2 other AC units which with this small AC makes 3 over all. My house is less hot then before. It's a quiet AC unit. But I will say its meant for a small room if your looking for an ac to cool a larger room then . You will need a lager AC unit. Over all its not a bad deal for the price."
5. Shinco 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner:

Michael C - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loud but effective, you DO have to vent it out a window or into another room
"Solid unit, fairly easy to move around, even up and down stairs. Definitely quite loud, even on just the fan but it does a pretty decent job of cooling the area.
Despite being a "portable" AC unit, it does need to vent the hot air from the compressor out a window (tube and window attachments are included, more on the window attachment in a bit). The remote control is decent, no complaints there. Overall, the unit is built solidly, I don't have concerns lifting it by the built in handle, seems pretty sturdy and I've been lugging it up and down stairs constantly.
It does need to drain water once in a while but it usually takes at least a few weeks to be nearing full capacity, but keep that in mind since you'll need to use the hose into a bucket or just dump it directly down a drain if possible.
So the window attachment...I have no idea who has windows this wide but the attachment for the tube/window is very long, as in wide. Much wider than any window in my house. I am currently using a couple beach towels to seal off the window as much as I can since I can't use the window attachment that was included but there are replacements that would fit much better available online. The window attachment and noise level are my only complaints, otherwise this unit cools down my area fairly well for the price.
I've recommended it to friends who were looking for a small-ish portable AC because of the nice price point but one of them returned it because it was too loud for what she needed. I haven't tried the dehumidifier yet so I can't comment on that aspect but the AC and fan work great, just loud.
It's also really nice that you can direct the air up or down. I can keep the unit in my loft and just point the airflow downward a bit to get to my sleeping area below, the air has to travel about 12 feet but I can still feel the cold breeze from that distance.
Happy with this unit because most of my house stays relatively cool but I work in my loft at the top of the house, which gets crazy hot. I don't want to run the central air for the entire house when I only need to cool one room so this was a great solution."
charles tibbs - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Low cost doesn’t always mean low quality.
"Easy to adjust and to use. I was expecting much lower quality from this sight but was pleasantly surprised at how well it functions. The glass optics are good and the metal finish is as it should be. It is very light so it fits well on my 1911 semiauto 45 acp.
I have many handguns that I have replaced the original iron sights with a red dot system so I am familiar with using the red dot. This one is bright and clear and so easy to use. I will probably buy two more to be placed on the two 9mm handguns I have on order.
The sight came in a container that is great for sight storage and included a soft cleaning cloth."

While the reviewer initially struggled with setup due to dead batteries, they note that once working properly the unit did a good job cooling their 350 square foot room. However, they also find the unit noisier than their previous Haier air conditioner.
In summary, key features of this Hisense air conditioner include its high cooling capacity for large spaces, ENERGY STAR efficiency rating, 4-way airflow, dehumidifying function, smart controls and compatible app, and quick installation. The noise level may be relatively loud for some customers.

Lisadhome NYC - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hisense portable does the job
"I have an older version of this unit and it is doing the job well into 3rd summer. I need it in alternative to window units that kept building mold from rainy days and humidity.
I bought this at same time as LG unit and prefer the cooling power on this one. I use the dry option as often as the cool option and both make highly humid Manhattan days/nights bearable.
Not without some annoyances on connections. You may have to use wood or other type of shim below slider for window to raise it up (as I did) it you have a lip that is higher than inner window ledge. The hose connector to unit and to the window slider are often problematic - you get one to connect and it comes apart as you are trying to connect other end. I recommend you secure the window section first as you can adjust the unit connection attachment a bit. I did use some painters tape to keep the unit attachment in the slot as it tends to disconnect when you move the unit. If you never need to move it ( I am in tiny apartment and occasionally do) it probably will not be an issue.
Noise is average in my opinion. It is better than my old window unit and about same as LG portable one. I added a video so you can listen.
I do not use the remote or sleep mode so I cannot advise on that."
Larry - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars Our second hisense air conditioner
"Couldn’t install a normal window air comditioner. Was able to onstall this same unit last year which continues to work well. Bought this second unit to cool more of the house. Very pleased with them."
7. Hisense Portable Air Conditioner 6,000 BTU Cooling Dehumidifier Fan for Smaller Room up to 250 sq ft
This portable air conditioner from Hisense provides 6000 BTU of cooling for spaces up to 250 square feet. It functions as an air conditioner, dehumidifier, and fan to suit your needs.
Customers praise the Low-Noise cooling system, which allows the unit to operate quietly enough for sleep. The included remote control allows convenient operation from across the room.
Setup is made easy with the snap-assembly window kit that is quick to install. The kit fits windows from 18 to 50 inches wide. The condensed water evaporates outside through the exhaust hose, so there is no need to empty a reservoir.
Additional features include multi-directional auto louvers that adjust the airflow, and a sleep timer function.
While the reviewer praises the convenience and quiet operation compared to a window unit, they do note that some noise is to be expected from the compressor. Refurbished units appear to provide good value at a lower price point.
In summary, the key strengths of this Hisense portable AC are the compact size for smaller spaces, 3-in-1 functionality, low noise operation, convenience features like the remote control and installation kit, and useful functions like the sleep timer. Customers appreciate the value offered for the cost.
The potential limitations noted are that while quieter than window units, some noise from the compressor is still present. Refurbished units may lack documentation or accessories but offer cost savings.

Vern - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ awesome for smaller rooms
"I got one of these for my office this year. installation was super easy and it does great cooling the room (12' x 12'). it's a little on the noisy side when it's running. my only real complaint is the fact that the unit completely turns off when it's not cooling. I have other AC unit's that keep the fan on, even while the compressor isn't running, and I much prefer that.
overall, a great portable AC unit!!"
CC - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ cools quickly
"this is my 2nd Hisense portable air conditioner purchase and it works great. I prefer this brand because of the no leak feature that reuses condensate. I have not had to worry about draining it but i do check it periodically when the humidity is higher. So far so good. The controls are easy to understand. It has a long vent hose, sleep timer feature, and even comes with a convenient remote. Comes with easy to use window installation parts and instructions. Definitely quieter than a window unit but some noise is to be expected from a compressor faithfully chugging out cold air so efficiently. I bought this one refurbished and appreciated the cost savings and speedy delivery. unit is as advertised."

Kelly - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars Amazing!
"I had to get this AC unit as a second one due to my hovel apartment having cracks and gaps all around the door and paper thin walls that let scalding hot summer air inside. I wish my first AC unit were this one, too, because it rocks!
It is so quiet and works great and gets freezing cold when you want it to. It also has a fan mode and a channel changer for it. This is an amazing buy!"
H.Tran - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars Good but there are better ones.
"I recently purchased the LG 7,000 BTU air conditioner, and I must say it has been a game-changer in cooling off my room during hot summer days. This unit packs a punch when it comes to cooling efficiency, quickly transforming the room into a comfortable oasis. One of the standout features of this air conditioner is the included remote control. It allows me to conveniently adjust the temperature, fan speed, and mode from across the room, without having to get up and manually interact with the unit. This feature adds a level of convenience and comfort to my experience, making it easy to customize the settings to my liking.
While the air conditioner's performance and remote control have impressed me, it's worth noting that the unit is a bit bulky in size. However, the built-in wheels have been a saving grace, making it surprisingly easy to move the air conditioner from one room to another. This mobility feature adds a level of versatility, allowing me to cool different areas of my home without the need for multiple units.
Considering its cooling effectiveness and the convenience of the remote control, I believe the price of the LG 7,000 BTU air conditioner reflects its power and quality well. Despite its bulky size, the mobility provided by the built-in wheels compensates for this drawback. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone in need of a reliable and efficient air conditioning solution.
In conclusion, the LG 7,000 BTU air conditioner delivers excellent cooling performance, effectively transforming any room into a comfortable space. The included remote control adds convenience and ease of use, allowing for effortless adjustments from a distance. While the unit may be bulky, the built-in wheels make it easy to maneuver.
